Affinity2020 Update
Last month, we shared how we provided support to a young woman and her child, who had to flee an abusive partner. We assisted in securing good quality temporary accommodation for them while they await appropriate rehousing by the Council.
This week, we received a heartwarming email from Charlotte Elliot at Affinity 2020, who has been working closely with the young woman, the Council and key support services, and initially reached out to us for assistance.
“We are deeply grateful to Yes Tax for their generous support, which made it possible for us to provide emergency accommodation to a young person during a critical time in their life. Thanks to your contribution, this individual was able to continue their studies in a safe and stable environment, maintaining a sense of normalcy and family life despite their challenges.
Your support has had a profound impact, and without it, this young person could have faced a far more difficult and uncertain situation. We cannot thank YesTax enough for being a vital part of their journey.”

The stark reality is that 1 in 4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime. Police statistics reveal that a domestic abuse-related call is made every 30 seconds; however, alarmingly, over 76% of domestic abuse crimes go unreported.
Even more concerning is the fact that the risk of further serious assault, or even fatality, reaches its highest point for women immediately after they leave an abusive relationship. This makes it absolutely crucial to swiftly move them into new, undisclosed accommodation, as this step is vital in preventing further harm.
Relocating immediately from an abusive environment also helps to break the abuser's control and address factors such as financial manipulation or restrictions on movement, which contribute to social isolation and take a serious toll on the victim's mental health. It provides women with the opportunity for emotional healing and recovery, allowing them to rebuild their lives free from fear and coercion.
In addition, a new, safe home ensures that they can access essential support services without fear of retaliation for seeking help.
We are grateful to have been able to offer this young woman and her child assistance with the first steps on their journey towards recovery. We hope that, with each passing day, they will continue to heal, grow, and thrive in their new life.
