Toddler’s Bed Donated for Hard-hit Family
Last month YesTax received a call from a local primary school asking if we could help them support one of the families with children at the school.
The increasing financial weight of the cost-of-living crisis had made a bad situation worse for this single-parent family of three who could not afford to buy a bed for the youngest child to sleep in. As any parent knows, your own sleep is depleted on any night a child sleeps with you in your own bed. For this to be routine every single night, without respite, is certain to take its toll and become an unsustainable strain on both parent and child in what is already a tough upward struggle.
Bed poverty is all too commonplace in the UK. In 2017 children’s charity Buttle UK published a report which revealed a shocking 400,000 young people did not have their own bed to sleep in. This was then further underlined in 2020 when the charity’s findings showed that almost one-third of all low-income households struggled to afford beds for their children and that this number was on the rise. A second charity, Zarach based in Yorkshire, noted that at the end of 2021, they had received a worrying and unprecedented flood of enquiries from hard-hit families asking for beds.
Undoubtedly, the issue across the UK is extremely concerning. YesTax is 100% committed to playing its own small part in alleviating some of the pain for families in dire circumstances. It is our pleasure to supply this family of three with a bed, mattress, duvet, pillow and bedding that will be there for many years to come.
Since supplying the necessary funding to the school, we received a warm message of thanks in return. It’s simply amazing that as part of its everyday YesTax is able to make its own slice of difference to the welfare of vulnerable children in the world.
(Please note that the names of any children have been removed for privacy and protection).
Hi Melanie
I just wanted to share this photo of the toddler bed that YesTax funded and a lovely message from mum. We were able to buy the duvet, pillow and bedding too.
“Hi, The bed is lovely - it's perfect for XXXXXXX. I am so grateful. It means the world to me and my little girl.”
A huge heartfelt thank you from me too!!!

YesTax’s Hardship Fund provides small grants to families with vulnerable children who find themselves in financial need. Grants are made to fund household equipment, such as cookers, fridge freezers, beds, bedding, clothing, food or craft packs that can make a significant difference to a vulnerable child’s life. Funding is applied for and supplied back via recognised social organisations such as housing associations, social services, safeguarding officers at schools and charities registered with the Charity Commission, who are acting on behalf of a vulnerable child. Such organisations can apply for funding through our website here, or get in touch with ali@yes.tax for more details.
