YesTax continues to support vulnerable children in its local community

Having donated previously, YesTax learnt of another family from a local primary school in need of a bed for the 2 year old sibling of a child who attended the school. The child was sharing with their Mother and the family was desperately in need of support.

For families struggling to afford basic things like food, money to pay for heating and electricity, and now safe places to sleep, the real impact of the cost-of-living crisis is hugely apparent. The school explained that bed space is very low on the list of items to purchase when families are struggling financially, especially since the rise in food and heating bills. Since sleep is so essential in ensuring the well-being, safety and development of young children, YesTax was pleased to be able to intervene and help with the provision of a bunk bed and bedding for the siblings. This meant that the children were able to sleep independently from their Mother and have their own bedtime routine.

For children, sleep deprivation can lead to behavioural issues, academic challenges due to a lack of energy and motivation and health risks as a result of a weakened immune system.

According to the children’s charity, Barnardos, more than one million children in the UK either sleep on the floor or share a bed with parents or siblings because their family cannot afford the “luxury” of replacing broken frames and mouldy linen. Barnardo’s says the rise in ‘bed poverty’ reflects growing levels of destitution following soaring food or gas bills.

As we heard when YesTax previously donated to a family in similar circumstances, the issue across the UK is extremely concerning. To make meaningful contributions to families in such distressed circumstances is fundamental to the company’s purpose, and is why YesTax continues to donate 2.5% of everything it does to vulnerable children both here in the UK and overseas.
